We tested the game using the 64-bit executable under and DirectX 10 with the 1.21 patch applied. We used a custom timedemo recorded on the Harbor map which is more representative of gameplay than the built-in benchmark that renders things much faster than you're going to experience in game.

For our testing, we set all the settings to High. Because of how intense the game is, we tested with both anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering disabled at resolutions above 1,680 x 1,050 for the time being. There is currently no support for anisotropic filtering in the game, but you can still force it from the driver control panel.

In Crysis with the GeForce GTX 280 on all high settings at 1,680 x 1,050 (so you can make a further comparison to other CPUs here) the 2.7GHz AMD Athlon X2 7750 stretches out a slight lead to the typically better and similarly priced Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU, although in a clock to clock comparison with the 7550, the Intel E5200 has a two fps advantage.

The gap is finally much closer than it has been between Intel and AMD in gaming once again, and the older (and once gaming glorious) K8s are left several frames per second behind the newer K10s in a clock to clock comparison.

We've included the Radeon HD 4830 for some more comparisons, because at £91 it fits very well into the performance mainstream market where these CPUs are also aimed. The result for the Athlon X2 7550 is much better here - beating the Intel E5200 by a single fps, so not a huge margin, but both the new Kumas top the table at 1,280 x 1,024 in Crysis. A great result for AMD.
